I Like Growing Big Plants, What Should I Grow?

I like growing plants, especially fruits and vegetables. Not so much flowers since they are nice to look at but you can’t actually taste the fruit of your labours…
I want to grow something big… what do you recommend? If it doesn’t take up a ton of space with metres upon metres of vines that would help.
I’ve thought about watermelon but I’ve heard they need a TON of water, almost swamp-like conditions.
Maybe pumpkin… not sure if I want a jackolantern type of pumpkin,or one of those big edible ones which are actually squash I’ve heard.
My dad suggested sugar beets but I have no idea where I would get the seeds from, I’m not a farmer. I think all stores sell are red beet seeds.
Maybe corn? I’ve tried but never gotten it to start growing.
Any other suggestions?
I live in Canada… southwestern Ontario if that makes a difference.

you can grow a super dwarf canvendish banana. these bananas are great with a little food and water. only grows 3 feet tall and then makes small, but delicious flowers once it reaches a full height of 3 feet.
also the mus basjoo banana. this is a cold hardy banana that may survive outside. they make unedible bananas, but having a banana plant in a northern climate is great. musa basjoo is hardy to UDSA 5b which is a planting zone that has mimimal temperatures of -15 degrees. the musa basjoo is a dieback plant which will look dead after the first frost, but with some mulch will come back from the ground in late spring.

pass on the sugarbeets. The are not edible. I tried when I was in Idaho. They are like liek wood almost. Howver if you grow them in the very southern part of california which has a very long growing season, one beet can be 60 lbs.
Peaches will grow in your area, but they are a pain because they are susceptible to so many fungal diseases and aphids.

I grow 10 foot sunflowers and shoepeg corn tops that. Runner beans both green and lima will climb a trelis or the corn and sunflower stalks. RScott

I was going to say a Banana tree until I read where you live. Too cold up there for that….maybe an apple or cherry tree since both require a cold winter before they produce a good crop. Grapevines also do well up there.
