Garbage bags won’t work for several reasons….they will deteriorate and they will leak.
Use a EPDM pond liner it’s usually less than $1.00 a square foot or in UK
break that down into 0.5044 £
To figure the size use the link below and read why to use this kind of linerhttp://www.azponds.com/pond_liner.htm
Research any project about building ponds FIRST other wise you could wind up with a leaking hole that is smelly and green and won’t sustain any kind of fish or wildlife.
This is my hobby and I learned by asking and researching online.

Garbage bags won’t work, the water will run between them. You need the proper pond liner and a soft underlayment: sand or even old carpet.
Spend some time researching pond design, building and maintenance. It’s a bit more than just digging a hole. Are you putting in a filter, plants, fish??? You need to know what you are doing before you create a mosquito haven.

go to Lowes and talk to an outside lawn and garden associate, they should have training on ponds… it’s been 2 years since i worked in that department, but a “flexible” pond lining is 22mil thick… an EXTRA heavy duty trash bag is only 3mil thick… that’s only 1/7th of the proper thickness… you could also buy a preformed rigid liner that looks real nice and put it in… that’s easier
