She needs better pruning shears. They make telescoping pruners with a rope that will reach in and do the cutting without scratching her arms. Good gloves that will resist thorns will help with stacking and tying the branches for clean-up.
Sounds like she may have Bougainvillea. Tell her to hire some one to cut it down the first time then she’ll be able to better keep it up through the year.
