Should I Actually Do This Dream Of Sleeping In A Garden Shed Some Summer Nights? Or Never Do It And Forget It?

For years I have had a dream of buildind or buying a garden shed to use as an art studio and on some nights acually sleep in. Even though I’m in my 20s my parents would still allow me to do this in their backyard. On some weekend nights I would sleep in the shed with my sleeping bag. I would get some time to myself and get an opportunity to read books alone while escaping TV,computer and radio.
Due to the size of the shed I would be unable to put in a restroom. The inside would look like a cabin with light borwn woodfinsh walls and a green door on both sides. The floors would be polished wood with rugs.
Several people who I have asked about this idea many times think its time to drop the idea and end the dream. Should I do this to get it out of my system or forget it?

    Unknown62008,
A goal without a plan is just a wish.
You say that you have been wishing to buy/build this garden retrieve for the longest time. We all have dreams. Some of them are attainable, while others simply aren’t. Therefore, before you venture on your dream, there are a few things I would consider so you don’t end up making this dream a nightmare.
You are in your 20′s and living with your parents. Affordability is the most vital information and the one you left missing.
Here are some questions I have that may help you decide whether or not this is the time to make that dream a reality.
    Do you have an income?
How much would it cost you to buy/build this shed? (Shed, flowers, maintanance, electricity, and water.)
    Who will plant the garden?
How much would it cost you to do the garden and maintain it every month?
How would you pay for it?
Would you buy it outright or take a loan?
If you are taking a loan, what interest rate would you qualify for and how long would it take you to pay?
Do you have plans to move out from your parents house?
How long are you planning to live with your parents?
What other monthly expenses do you currently have? Can you afford increasing them? By how much?
Once you move from their home, are you planning to rent or buy a home?
If you needed a downpayment + closing costs, how much would you need?
If you built/bought this garden shed, how long would it take you to save up that money?
I would think that your quality of life is at its best when you feel financially secure. When you have no loans, and you put yourself in the driver’s seat of your financial life. That is when you’re sensible with your spending. If this is the case, then you don’t need any of those girls or guys you mention commenting on something that is your dream- not theirs.
Go ahead and respond some of my questions to yourself so you know whether or not this is the time to build it. If you find that it isn’t, then plan it for the future. If you know that you won’t be much longer at your parents’ house, then you would know that you won’t enjoy it long term- the same if your parents sell their house.
Have a plan with set dates so no regrets or worries could tamper your dream. If you plan it well, you will be left with nothing but enjoyment.
Wouldn’t that be the sole point of making it a reality?
    Good luck!

Go for your dream. What is wrong with your friends?
Just go for it . I would. Remeber to enjoy your life and not be controlled .
There are no limitations to what you can do. Come and live in a country where that sort of thing is ok.

One of the saddest experiences in life is looking back and thinking, “I wish I would have done that, but I was scared…” You can waste years being afraid while life passes you by! And Friend . .. to be afraid because of what people say, is one of the dumbest reasons to not do something.
You have to make your own experiences, your own quality of life, your own memories for yourself, while you have the chance. Don’t let a silly fear steal one year, one experience, from you! If your parents will let you do that – what they heck are you wasting time for?
If I were there, I’d kick your a** myself. Then help you build it.
PS Make sure you put a few cross-windows in – if it’s an art studio, you’ll need good ventilation.

If you want to do it, shoot for it! But make sure you leave the windows open and learn to be in harmony with nature, like don’t shut yourself away from it. Your garden shed shouldn’t be a barrier from nature, but a part of it. Trying to control your dreams destroys them!
And no you aren’t crazy! Everyone has their quirky fantasies… I myself aspire to have sex on top of that pinpoint tower in Las Vegas someday, the really tall needle one. :]
