I am looking for a website that includes all different types of plants (vegetables, flowers, herbs, fruits, etc.), information on growing them, and about different types of soil and soil additives.

    Hi:
I am a landscaper and designer. I have a website – landscape solutions for you. There is information on growing from seeds, properly planning – prepping – planting, tips and techniques, many articles on all aspects of landscape and gardens, a tropics section, and a photo gallery. I will link you to the site map as this page has everything that is on the website. Browse through and see if you can find the information you are looking for.
I will also link you to the gallery of plants section and the plan – prep -plant page. I think this may help you on plant identification as well as zones and the plan page is an overall view I always use with my clients. I hope this will help you in your landscape needs. Good luck to you and have a great day!

My personal favorite which i go to quite a bit is http://davesgarden.com/
Given you’re from MI, I assume (Michiganrocks kind of gives it away ;o), their extension offices are thorough eventhough I find most to be very agriculture oriented. Each individual county should have specific information on your region in which you live. Publications are plentiful and many, you can research on line and download and print at your leisure.
If you can’t find what you want on line call or stop in at your local office with your questions. Their job is to help YOU!
