What’s The Best Way To Make An All Rock Yard?
| |
We want to make a rock garden in our front yard. We do not want any plant life, just rocks and old dry wood stumps and stuff. What is the best way to lay the rocks? I have landscape fabric, but have never used it before.

I agree with ‘earthworm’, you’re looking at a mess in a few years. After a few short years the gravel will trap enough dirt, dust and leaves to form soil that rivals potting soil. Then the gravel traps weed seeds and the battle begins. If and when you tire of the look, gravel is a real pain in the b.utt to remove and if you decide to sell your home, thats one of the first things a Realtor is going to tell you to do. RScott
A rock garden is one of the most difficult to do. On one hand it can be an amazing display that pleases the eye and is a wonderful display. On the other it can become an eyesore and look like some gravel truck backed up and dumped a load on your grass. Landscape fabric is good for a start as it will keep the weeds down. But you really need to go some serous research (at the library or a local landscape co,) before you spend a lot of time and end up with a mess.
Good Luck
All you have to do is make sure your area is level and then lay down the landscape fabric and add gravel and rocks as you like.
