Which Looks Better – Mulch Or Marble Stone For Landscaping?

What looks better for around my evergreens – mulch or marble stones. The marble chips are much more expensive, I think. Which would you choose to look nicer. Thank you.

It just depends on your taste, unless you are doing a huge landscape where soil deterioration really comes in affect. then it becomes important you hire an expert. But if you are just looking at putting some color in your yard, you can choose what you wish. A few years back I used both. I chose the plants and the placements. I used mulch of a different color to make the plants stand out and circled each plant about the same size of the plant or larger to make it stand out. I then used small marble chips in various colors to cover what earth was left. The ground became a design as well of my choosing. I placed all the stone on sheets of plastic screening. This way each spring I could simply lift 90% of them off and wash them, while i rearranged my mulch and plants. It does take more time than only one of the two, but I mean my garden is not that big, I finish it in one weekend under a beautiful sunny day and I am proud of it all year.
Winning the prize for the nicest garden was a nice compliment too.

Marble chips had a very brief and limited period of popularity. With the current interest in gardening and landscaping, the preferred covering around trees is mulch. They provide a natural look and are environmentally beneficial to the trees, unlike marble, which provides no benefit to the trees.

Depends on where, but I like mulch.

Mulch has so many advantages. Organic mulch decomposes to enhance the soil structure, provides nutrients to plants. Mulch prevents moisture loss in summer and in winter helps keep the soil warm. Also mulch looks better.
Stones offer many disadvantages: they never look better than the day you first lay them. The landscape fabric that the rocks must be placed on to keep them from “diving” into the soil decomposes over time leaving you with an unsightly fabric to deal with. Also, any fabric even if it is porous provides an anaerobic condition for the soil. This means your plants can’t breathe through their roots. So this in turn equates to poor looking plants.

It is a matter of what you like ,, stone may be more expensive but it is a one time thing where mulch has to be redone every few years.

It really depends on what you are planting and what kind of look you are going for. Mulch, as I have been told, helps to hold the moisture in the ground, looks nice and can be used not only on the walk ways, but also around your plants. It leaves everything looking earthy. Marble stone will give you a more classier look.
