I want to start doing bonsai. Is it possible to bonsai a princess, Alexander, date, or coconut palm. What are good trees for beginners. Also, does anyone know any good websites for beginners?

if you do start bonsai try to find a bonsai club and go. a good website is dallasbonsaigardens.com. one of the best trees for beginner is a juniper. as a bonsai artist you are trying to make a young small tree look old. your bonsai need water/feed and light to grow. bonsai trees are not put into dirt. you will need a bonsai mix. a good mix is pine bark mulch and some sort of grit. i use large sand blasting sand. sift both pine bark and sand throw out anything above 1/4 inch mix mulch and sand in a 50/50 mix
I don’t know about palms, they tend to have very long roots in the wild, might not take kindly to being trimmed. If you go to gardenweb.com, it has forums covering every kind of plant question and I’m sure someone with more knowledge will answer.
